the adventures of a reiki practitioner

wendyrulemagic_jpg.jpg

Last night I made magic with Wendy Rule and about 150 of the coolest witchy folk in the Twin Cities. It was an extraordinary night of music which began with Felonious Bosch, moved to the groove of Kari Tauring’s staving, and landed in a place outside of space and time with Wendy Rule. I’ve been listening to Wendy’s works for a few years now, and I own two albums of her work. The Lotus Eaters by Wendy RuleWhen I was busy redecorating my Reiki Studio, I played The Lotus Eaters to keep the good vibrations happening. It’s still one of my favorite albums, and it was a thrill to see Wendy play “The Raven Song” live with just a Djembe to accompany her. She stood before us in a black mesh tutu skirt, a black corset, fishnet stockings, and black boots. A sheer orange blouse was tied, not buttoned, in front. In her hands she held a shining black acoustic/electric guitar, which she played to guide us all with the rhythm of her songs. But her voice was so powerful and elastic, she didn’t need it musically at all, the instrument she was born with wrapped visions around us all beginning with the calling of the quarters.

What can I say to convey to you the presence of the Goddess/God/Spirit last night? She sang to the moon and to Artemis, she sang of horses and ravens and a wolf sky, she sang of Mother Earth and to us all. deepwithin.jpgAt the end we cast our spell to bring us closer to our Soul Selves and to live a more meaningful life. For me that is as a Reiki Master and artist, and so I will be looking for new ways of sharing all my gifts while I keep an eye on the turning of the seasons and the phases of the moon. Now that spring has arrived, I’m working on creating another shade garden filled with hostas, ferns, and impatiens for a bit of color. And I’ll listen to Wendy sing from Deep Within a Fairy Forest while I do that. It’s an old magic, but it works for me. ;)

It’s something that happens when I diligently do my Reiki Meditations every day, or even almost every day. My life gets into a groove, where Good Things happen. Sometimes I meet the person I need to meet, say the right thing at just the right time, or just notice the exquisite beauty of a flower. It’s sort of like getting a taste of some kind of cosmic catnip that makes the world a better and brighter place.

Even now, when times are tough. Around me I keep running into people getting laid off, or having to lay off some of their staff, while I just got a new job. Getting in the Groove reminds me to always be grateful for the blessings that I have each and every day. With Reiki II I have the distance healing symbol and so can send some of that groovy goodness to others, and wish them a little more peace, love, and happiness.

So I design more t-shirts, pillows, totes, and gifts to share some of the blessings with others. It’s just another way to pass it on, so more people can get into the groove and find their own path to cosmic bliss, in primary colors. This world is our sandbox, so let’s play!

I’m going to start hosting a regular Reiki Share. It’s a chance for Reiki Practitioners to get together and give each other Reiki. Today was going to be my second attempt, but nobody RSVP’d positively. I have now set up a Yahoo Group for those interested in participating, and it will allow my local Reiki Folk to talk amongst themselves between shares too.

Click the button below if you are

  1. trained in Reiki and in the Minneapolis area and
  2. interested in participating in my Reiki Shares in the future.

There is a lovely little article on Earth Ki that describes one of the aspects of Reiki that isn’t talked about as much, and that is being filled to overflowing.  For years I’ve been what’s commonly known as a Pagan, one who honors the Earth and her seasons and works with her energy, sometimes called magic. So I’m familiar with Earth Ki, and I know just the goddess to invoke to begin. The practice of Jumon mentioned in the article is a powerful one as well, used by monks and priests worldwide. It is merely chanting and focusing on a particular energy source. With Reiki it is focusing on the name of one of the Reiki symbols.
A year ago when the symbols were fresh in my mind, I practiced this as well to great effect. I was filled with Reiki so much, that it was as if I was walking in a different world. Everywhere I went there was something new about Reiki, or I would by chance meet another Reiki practitioner or master. Sometime over the past few months that experience has become dulled, which is one of the reasons I am now hosting a monthly Reiki Share, so I can keep myself charged up. Now I think I shall endeavor to return to the practice of Jumon again. My hands and arms are tingling as I write this, so I think it’s time to go upstairs and get started.

Have a great night!

Reiki Table with Cat

I woke up one morning and went into the Reiki Studio only to discover Caruso lounging in the morning light on the Reiki Table. He does love his Reiki! Every night I try to spend some time on that table giving myself Reiki, so it’s usually Reiki charged and ready for any cat to lay down and soak it up. This is my Cat on Reiki. :)

I’ve added this picture to my Reiki Session page so people can feel confident that they will leave their Reiki Session with both Reiki and cat hair. It is also a good demostration of the relaxation response that often accompanies a session. Melting into the table, or sometimes feeling a bit giddy after a session are commonplace.

Giving a cat Reiki is as simple as petting them. They will tell you when the session is done by getting off the table. Usually I shut the door with the cats on the other side as I like to meditate before giving myself Reiki, but one evening I let Caruso’s shy sister Cleopatra stay. Even when she got on my lap insisting that I pet her, I was able to maintain my focus on my meditation. Then she joined me on the table and shared in my Reiki session, and we both went to bed after that much more relaxed and happy as a result.

So I learned that Reiki can really help me keep on track in my meditation and provide additional healing energy to my cat at the same time. It’s just one more thing to be thankful for.

eaward.jpgOk, now they’ve done it! Somebody went and sent me an award for the blog. It’s actually from Alice at Reiki Awakenings, now I have to include 10 other people, so this is going to be fun. Mostly because I have an eclectic interest in this particular arena. I’m truly honored to receive this award, because I get so much out of putting my thoughts in writing that I don’t really worry about who’s reading it or if it’s any good. So this is just a great big cherry on top of my double chocolate fudge cake. :)

So now here’s MY top ten list and why for each of them.

  1. Philip Carr-Gomm’s Weblog - One of the most frequently updated websites in my blogroll, this one is by the Chief Druid of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids, of which I am a member. It is always well written, most often inspirational, and definitely thought provoking. It is a daily glimpse into the mind of someone dedicated to honoring the earth through humanity, and honoring humanity with the earth.
  2. Reiki Share - Two sisters, one blog. Together they share their knowledge and journey about Reiki and life in general. Reading Reiki Share is like sitting down in a coffee shop and talking with friends about whatever is of interest this day. There is a depth to the sharing as well, and I really feel welcome when I visit this blog.
  3. Meredith Dillman Art - Meredith is a dear friend and artist, her work is both accessible and exquisitely done. She does amazing detailed illustrations in watercolor, with an emphasis on fantasy art. This blog features her latest projects and it’s well worth watching.
  4. Tony DiTerlizzi’s Imaginopolis Blog - The creative artist behind the hugely successful Spiderwick Chronicles has his own blog. Whenever you want to go walking through a magical place, go here.
  5. Wyrdsmiths - It’s all about words and the people who write them. A shining example of a group blog that’s still going strong. I’ve read some of the authors’ books and I’ve found them quite tasty. They write fiction of the mostly fantasy/SF variety.
  6. Head Cheese - The livejournal of Ellen Million, an Alaskan woman, artist, and entrepreneur. It’s a fascinating look into the mind and day to day grind of trying to balance creativity, business and life. She’s an inspiration to me for her willingness to be open and honest while trying to make the most out of life.
  7. Intent Blog - This is one by Deepak Chopra and friends. It’s all about living intentionally, acting instead of reacting, and just trying to be healthy. Everything from world issues to addiction is touched on in the blog, and it’s got a wealth of info that I just want to spend a day to dig around in when I get a chance.
  8. Bronwen & Frans Steine’s Amazon Blog - Reiki authors and teachers share their views on practicing Reiki. Though their home base is down under in Australia, they travel around the world teaching classes as well. In their teaching they emphasize Japanese techniques and personal practice.
  9. Reiki - What it all be like - An informative blog by Duane Flowers, a Reiki Master who has been living in Japan for the past 12 years. It’s organized a bit more like a website than a blog like mine, but there is some good advice found within the pages for those who are interested.
  10. Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing Blog - As an animal lover, I have to say I couldn’t complete this list without having this on here. This is a new find for me and one that I’ll be adding to my blogroll. It’s by Rose De Dan who is an author, Reiki Master Teacher and animal communicator. There is a rich well of wisdom here that I’ll be drawing from over the coming months.

Well that’s my list and I’m sticking to it! I hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I do, and please don’t hesitate to comment any time you stop by.

We’ve been experiencing some Spring snow up here in Minnesota. Since I’m in the southern part of the state, it’s been mixed with rain more often than not, so it isn’t sticking around very long. The weather will warm by the middle of the week and feel a bit more like Spring then, and I’m looking forward to it. I feel a bit like a bear coming out of hibernation. I started a new job a month ago, and I’m still working to adjust to the new schedule. It’s taking a bit longer than I thought, what with the Tax Return deadline looming and taking up much of my free time this weekend.

My husband and I are still sharing one car, and we’re busy with the new budget my new job has brought us, figuring out a way to pay down our debt so we can become a two car family once again. With him working 2nd shift in the city and me and early 1st shift in the suburbs, ride sharing is a strain on his sleep schedule. Yesterday I brought a framed copy of the Reiki Precepts in to have at my desk at work. Just a gentle reminder of how best to use my time, and to honor Reiki while I’m at work as well.

The spring snow will melt and feed our gardens here at the Reiki Studio, and I’m looking forward to getting my hands dirty as I create new mini-gardens this Spring. I definitely want to include giving Reiki to plants as part of every class, and possibly Reiki Shares that I do here. My house plants need a little bit of attention too.

Happy Spring to you wherever you are!

Last week I began a new job, so I spent much of my time adjusting to a new schedule, early to bed and early to rise. I had a few moments a couple of mornings to spend in a brief meditation and to bless my doorways with Reiki. I think I did my nightly meditations twice last week, I went straight to bed other nights after being out late. Now that I have a new schedule, I’ll have to adjust some of the things on the Calendar accordingly. I have decided when to schedule my first Reiki Share too. I’m going for the Third Saturday of Each month as a regular repeating day from 1-3 in the afternoon. I have a few people who have voiced an interest in this so I will be contacting them with the day and time. It should be fun, and a chance for me to get Reiki for myself monthly as well as give it.

March 9th was my first anniversary of becoming a Reiki person, and as I look back on the past year I’m amazed at the influence Reiki has been on my life, and on those that I love.  In the beginning, there was so much to learn, so I devoured book after book, article after article, and was hungry for knowledge about this wonderful healing path. Through daily practice, I began to find my center more easily, and I became aware of energy imbalances around me. Sometimes they were subtle, sometimes more obvious and I had to make some changes in my life.

Those changes are still happening, in large and small ways. I was so eager to begin a professional Reiki Practice in the beginning, and it was just what I needed to make me take the leap and create a place in my home devoted to Reiki. While things didn’t always work the way I imagined, many new experiences and new people brought me unforseen blessings. My first paying client was a professional psychic and she was able to describe my Reiki Guide to me perfectly. I had the opportunity to give Reiki to my dear friend Susan who has been battling Stage Four cancer, and over the past year I saw her become stronger and more resilient, and the cancer is now in remission.

I also saw my creativity come to life in my little Reiki Artist Store, creating designs that honor my Reiki path by providing clothing and tools like pillows and journals to other Reiki Masters and Practitioners. Life has presented me with many challenges, and having a regular practice helped me to find balance and stay calm in the middle of crisis situations. Sure I still cry once in a while, and I feel overwhelmed and confused sometimes. But when those moments come, I know they will pass and when I give myself Reiki they pass more quickly.

Subscriptions to my monthly newsletter–Reiki Artist News–have been growing steadily, and I have managed to send it out for the past several months more or less on time with an article and affirmation every single time. It has helped me stay on track and continue to explore new ways to work with Reiki, and to keep reading those books and articles.

As I look to the future, I need to sit down and think about the coming year and how I will approach it. There may be goals, but I think I’m going to go for creating a collage of what I hope to achieve and let my creativity loose as I do. One thing you can be sure of, this blog will continue to grow along with my Reiki experience. It’s become a touchstone for me, and I love the fact that I can look back on the past year just by going through the archives.  Starting the blog was one of the first things I did, and it’s still one of the best. Thanks for stopping by and giving it a read!

Today I was reading some more in The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer, and this quote is what really jumped out at me:

“Open up to receiving the assistance you desire…Trust in intention. It exists for you. Stay alert and be willing to accept any guidance that comes your way. Stay in vibrational harmony with the all-providing Source.”

So I began the day with blessing the doorways of the house with Reiki, so all who enter in will receive a touch of that healing energy, including me. This was my second day in a row of doing this, and I really noticed that I could feel the charge in the air this time. It’s also time for me to look at what the major energy of the day is. Thursday is influenced by the planet Jupiter, which brings expansion to all things. What do I want to expand today? How about my Yoga practice, which never really got off the ground the way it should have. So I will be doing that shortly.

Thursday Sprite Journal

As I look at my Thursday Sprite Journal above, the words below say to Expand the Light Within, so I will incorporate that with all that I am doing today. It all came so easily a year ago, and I’ve realized I’ve drifted away from my alignment with intention, so now I’m doing things to bring myself back to center. There is a letting go of the ego that happens as a result of connecting to the Source. Getting on that wavelength, and staying there, is a priority for me.

In just a few days I will be celebrating One Year as a Reiki Person. There have been some profound changes in some areas of my life, but other areas are in need of change and bringing into balance still. The time has come to face the monsters in the closet of my mind, and I think I may discover that they are much smaller and easily squashed than they want me to believe. As I continue to expand the light within, the dirty socks in the corner will have to be picked up and washed, the cobwebs cleared, and anything else in my psychic attic that is no longer of use will be discarded or burned up in that light.

There’s a lot of clutter that has accumulated around the house too, and I think it’s a reflection of inner clutter. Spring begins in just a couple of weeks, so it looks like it’s time to start with the Spring cleaning too. The energy cannot flow in a cluttered house, and I want the energy to keep on flowing. My dream of having a Reiki Home depends on it.
