Eye of Horus is looking for people who can help carry our vision for the next step in our evolution as a business.  Since we’re all about alternative paths, we’re not just going to banks (don’t you just love them?) to raise capital for necessary improvements and expansion. We wracked our brains for ideas and then  heard about how some other independent book stores were going direct to their communities and customers to raise capital.

We’ve listened to your stories about what the Eye means to you, thought about it, and decided it made sense to invite you to join us as we step further on this path of exploration. And because we know you like great art, we decided to create a series of Exclusive Limited Edition Art T-shirts!

Since the author is unknown, I had planned on taking that idea and adding it to my designs for the Reiki Artist Store for some time now. Another thing that I’ve been planning on doing is organizing my artist studio so I could actually start doing some creative things with pencils and brushes and whatnot, rather than pixels and keyboards like I’ve been doing for quite a while now. I am the Reiki ARTIST after all.

So now I’ve completed one of my tasks:

So now I have to get down to business and set up that art studio. There, I put it out there and now I must account for my actions. The truth is there is nothing more exciting, or intimidating, as a blank sheet of paper or a white canvas. On the computer, there is always the undo button, and I can save different versions as I go along. But on a piece of paper? There’s only so much erasing you can do before it damages the paper and it becomes hard to use.  Paintings you can paint over, but not without some difficulty.

But we are constantly creating things in our lives, whether it be art, an outfit, or lunch. We humans, we make things by chosing to do or not to do.  And this design is for everyone who ever decided to create anything in their life. Even if it’s just creating a smile.

One of the biggest challenges we face in life is learning to balance everything we have to do. Finding time to do meditation, take care of the laundry, feed the cats, keep the romance alive in our relationships, pay the bills, find meaningful work, etc. is a real challenge. When the internet came and brought with it nearly instant communication, it seemed that our lives would become more manageable as a result. For many of us it had the opposite effect. Now we have to add in time to check emails and update our blogs!

Even when we do manage to get into a rhythm and a routine with everything, when we get our schedule in sync with our responsibilities and pass-time pursuits, life will suddenly throw a curve ball to shake things up. I’ve had quite a number of those thrown at me over the past eleven months as I’ve been practicing Reiki, and there were times when I went to sleep instead of meditated, or didn’t start out my day with a self-reiki session. But it’s all part of the cycle of life, and sometimes a five minute time-out in a quiet corner, even in the a bathroom, can bring things back into balance. There’s aways a bit of chaos in order and a bit of order in chaos, and I’ve discovered that it’s what keeps the energy flowing in my life.

Finding rest within my own heart and mind in the midst of chaos puts things into perspective, and adding a dose of chaos to order keeps things from stagnating. Balance is ultimately about working with the energy flow as it comes, and not trying to force it work one way all the time.  There is an elegance to the movement of picking up the pieces, a reminder of the effort that it takes to put things in order makes me cherish those moments of Zen all the more.

Life is a work in progress. Above is a banner to another work in progress of the Shadowscapes Tarot by artist Stephanie Pui-Mun Law. This deck, which she estimates may be completed and published in 2009, is one of her greatest works to date, and a deck that I am dearly looking forward to obtaining when it becomes available.

If you are new to an understanding of the Tarot, then let’s begin with the Major Arcana – 22 cards numbered from 0 to 21 which represent the mythic aspect of our lives. Many of our major dramas, joys, fears and challenges come into play. It begins with the Fool at zero, which we all embody when beginning a new chapter in our lives. We are daring, excited, and not a little under-prepared because we do not know what will be expected of us as we pursue our goals and dreams.

As this year unfolds which began with a time of meditation and study, those things have continued for me as I took my Reiki and Pranic Healing classes and have begun putting them into practice. Now I’m helping others with Reiki and Tarot Readings, but I’m just a part of the story as are they. Ask any writer of fiction, and they will tell you that they didn’t intend for the character to do that, it was just what they did! And so we are co-creators with the God/Goddess/All That Is in our life. We are given skills, gifts, opportunities, but we decide which path to take and what we want with us on our journey.

I’m still figuring out how all of my varied talents can best work together for my own highest good and for those around me as well. Art was my focus for many years, and though I gained skill, I never felt truly fulfilled with it as a career, because it’s a huge struggle still. But now I stand on the edge of a precipice as a Metaphysical Fool and I’m eager to start on this road in earnest. The paint and brushes are just tools on the journey, not it’s purpose, and I’ll use them like a camera to record what I encounter along the way.
