In my last post, I mentioned that fixing up the house has uncovered some yucky surprises. Physical remnants of negative energies abound, and I’m working hard to changing it over into an energy of love and healing. I think that’s why I planted roses in the front garden. Nothing says I love you quite like a beautiful red rose. Flowers have such wonderful healing properties that I want to surround the house with them!

Reiki really is the energy of love. It is extremely gentle yet powerful, and it can do no harm. Something that reminded me of that was when I was at the Shadows Holistic and Psychic Fair. There were other energy workers there, but I was the only Reiki Master. Not all Ki is the same, or has the same vibrational healing properties as Reiki. Sure you could get a zing or a tingle from other kinds of energy, but they may not have the vibration that you need in order to acheive your healing goals.

Today I was listening to some love songs, and my love for my husband welled up inside of me. Reiki really is like that too! When it’s flowing freely through me to myself or others, I become filled with this gentle bliss, this living kindness that comforts and calms me. I am taken to a place of healing within my own soul where a bright light shines, warming my heart and opening me to a greater experience of love.

Life really is just an opportunity to experience love in it’s many forms. This week my meditations will concentrate on that love, because where that exists, there can be no darkness, no anger, no fear. Just Love and the energy of love, the power of love, which is at the heart of Reiki.

After years of shoddy workmanship and neglect/destruction by renters, my husband and I are trying to turn the house we now live in into a home and Reiki Sanctuary. It’s a lot of work, and everytime we turn around there is some other horror uncovered.

Today it was in the door for the Reiki Room. There wasn’t one, so we thought we could take one from one of the rooms in the basement. Turns out that both the top and bottom had been cut down, there were holes in the door, and a bullet hole in the doornob. So now I think that the holes in the door itself may have been made by bullets too. Needless to say, there is a lot of energy work that needs to be done here.

Lucky for me I have cats to help with things, they can get into places that I can’t. I’m going to make a point of loading them up with Reiki so they can cat-paw the place with some good healing juju. The picture above is from the door of the Reiki Room looking out onto the deck. That’s Cleo keeping a close watch from behind the lilac leaves. Together, we will get this house put together in a way that serves all of our needs, and is the Sanctuary that I dream of.

It’s been a crazy busy month for me, beginning with applying with the Secretary of State for Reiki Artist LLC on July 1st! Yes, it’s official, my Reiki business is a limited liability company in the state of Minnesota. Then there was convergence, the purchase of my new autoharp, autoharp lessons, and the Shadows Holistic and Psychic Faire last weekend. Whew!

But the good news is I’ve nailed down a schedule for the business that I can work with, and I’m moving forward with it rapidly. There are now over 100 people subscribed to Reiki Artist News, and over 90 people are now fans on Facebook as well.

Sometime in the next month I plan to do a complete overhaul of ReikiArtist.com to integrate the blog in with the homepage. Now I’m off to practice my autoharp, as I have my second lesson tomorrow.

The whirlwind continues….

Lately I’ve found myself getting completely exhausted in the afternoon, with 1-2 hours of work left at the day job. My self practice has been a bit sporadic as well. I’m hoping that this weekend we can get the door onto the room so I can have a bit more privacy when David his home. That way I’ll be less distracted and sessions for clients will be that much more private.

Lately, I’ve also found that even a few minutes in the morning saying the Reiki Precepts and giving myself Reiki help a great deal in setting the tone for the day. It’s so easy for me to let the little things get under my skin, but it’s so much better to just laugh them off. So not everyone plays this game of life by my rules, it’s time to let it go a bit.

Laughter is key, as is finding joy where you can and I’m looking forward to doing that more and more. But it’s the present that I have to learn to appreciate. These quiet moments when the breeze is blowing and the sky is blue and the cats are curled up on the Reiki table behind me. I hear the chimes playing outside as well.

Lately things have been wonderful.

You may be wondering why there is a picture of an Autoharp in a blog about Reiki. Well, last Saturday night my husband went and saw Riverfolk at the Riverview Cafe & Wine Bar here in Minneapolis. It was in celebration of my Birthday, and I just loved every minute of it. At one point, Becca mentioned that she had 50 strings to tune, because she brought a guitar, mandolin, and autoharp to play with.

Because it was to celebrate my birthday, I was already taking a walk down memory lane. This week I went through some old family photos which took me back to my childhood. One of my strongest memories is taking home the school’s Autoharp when I was about 10 years old and learning to play a song or two on it. The sound it makes is wonderful! All those strings!!

I love to sing and so I emailed Becca about what she thought a good instrument would be to take up so I could play and sing at the same time. I’ve tried guitar a couple of times, but the learning curve is really steep. I was considering the Mountain Dulcimer, because it’s the least expensive option. But she recommended the Autoharp, and so I searched online for a model with all the features she recommended and I found one. That’s what’s pictured at the top of this entry.

Music was always a very important part of my life growing up and well into my twenties. Over the past few years, I haven’t had as much time for it and I realized how much I miss it. Singing puts me into the flow of energy, one that I can share with people anytime, and I really want that Autoharp now! But if I called into the Suze Orman show in her “Can I Afford it” segment, I’m sure I would be denied because I don’t have my full eight months of emergency savings. People first, then money, then things is the mantra I went to sleep with in my head.

But oh, I could put Reiki into the ‘harp and share it during Open Mic night. And it would be a really wonderful stress outlet for me as well. There are friends and family members I could call who would encourage me to purchase the instrument as well. So now I have to ask myself some very tough questions. Because it really is a want and not a need, I have to ask myself “Can I afford it?” and right now I think the answer is no. All the more reason to keep on track with my savings goals.

So there’s not a lot about Reiki in this post, it’s more about living and trying to make good decisions for the long term. I know what I want, so I will give myself Reiki, and send Reiki to the dream and see what becomes of it. As it turns out, I want to learn Celtic Music on the Autoharp, and the woman who wrote the book on that lives in Minneapolis and teaches here. Since serendipity seems to be working in my favor I have hopes that if I just add Reiki, an autoharp like the one pictured above will be flowing into my life sooner rather than later.
