With all the additional snow we are getting this season, I’m finding I need a little extra Reiki to get through the day. The constant shoveling of walks and driveways, not to mention having to clean the car off whether you are coming and going, seems to make the day go by more slowly. Don’t get me wrong, it certainly is beautiful to look at with candles burning and a cat on your lap, but having to clear things away constantly takes it’s toll. All this time spending pushing snow around and driving slowly and carefully just makes those holiday to-do lists hard to get through.

So tonight, I’m definitely doing my Reiki before bed, and I plan on doing Reiki in the morning as well. A double dose a day until the snow passes and my list gets more manageable. I really do love living in Minnesota, but this time of year it sure would be easier to be a Hermit!

Last night was Reiki Share night, and it was a wonderfully relaxing evening as always. One of my favorite things is having new people come in, and hearing their stories about how they came to Reiki. Sometimes it’s another Reiki Master who knocks on my door, and they always bring new insight on how they do their sessions. Sometimes it’s someone brand new to Reiki and it’s really exciting to share this wonderful healing modality with them and answer their questions as best I can.

It’s all about the path, and it can take you around the country or around the world as you search for deeper meaning in your life. I myself traveled around the Midwest as an artist, and even as far as Portland Oregon for the Faery World Festival once. Now that I’m firmly settled, I really enjoy listening peoples stories about where they’ve been, the people they met along the way, the the lessons that they learned. So last night I learned a little about Biodynamic Farming and Gardening which was a delightful surprise. It goes hand in hand with community supported agriculture a.k.a. CSA. From the website:

…biodynamic farming and gardening looks upon the soil and the farm as living organisms. It regards maintenance and furtherance of soil life as a basic necessity if the soil is to be preserved for generations, and it regards the farm as being true to its essential nature if it can be conceived of as a kind of individual entity in itself — a self-contained individuality. It begins with the ideal concept of the necessary self-containedness of the farm and works with furthering the life of the soil as a primary means by which a farm can become a kind of individuality that progresses and evolves.

Like Reiki it is a practice that is true to nature and maintains a healthy balance for a full and robust life. This is a really fascinating approach to farming and gardening, which includes an appreciation and reverence for the presence of life in all things.

Tonight I went for a run/walk as I am training towards a 5K run with my co-workers from my day job. It was good to get out into nature and challenge myself a little. While I passed the suburban lawns and gardens, I enjoyed the view of the efforts of both the humans skill at creating a beautiful garden, and the plants enthusiasm in growing extra tall and wide in this years summer weather. Spring came early in these parts, and the fullness of the plants certainly testifies to this. Including the weeds.

As I step up my training and my jogging bursts become longer and longer, I find myself up for the challenge. I give myself little pep-talks as I go, and inch my inch, yard by yard, block by block I progress. While I didn’t accomplish everything I had planned to do this evening, I feel very good about taking care of myself with exercise, and spending time outside.

Now I sit here in front of the computer and my calf muscles are tightening up, so I’m due for a good stretch before bedtime I think, and then a nice self-reiki session to get ready for a busy weekend.

Tonight I went in to the Friday Night Reiki Clinic at Eye of Horus Metaphysical and I took a turn on the Reiki Table. I actually could have really used a longer session, but Maggie had expressed a desire to get on the table and it was her show after all. There was one client there, and another student of Maggie’s who uses singing bowls to do energy work. I love music, and sound really adds a dimension to energy work like no other. Maybe that’s why I play soft music while I meditate and do reiki.

I also had a chance to check out the new wind chimes that they just got into the store, they sound absolutely fabulous and look beautiful too. I have personally fallen in love with the Emperor Gong. Maybe I’ll get something like that for my birthday this June…I will have to start dropping hints I think.

Today was the second Sunday of the month, so I was over at Eye of Horus doing my regular Reiki Gig where I do Reiki for walk-in clients or appointments. Today things didn’t go quite as planned, in part because I had no idea it was daylight savings time and I arrived promptly at 12:00 noon, which is my actual start time, rather than at 11:00 which is what I was intending. Since I had no appointments, I joined my sister over at Bob’s Java Hut for our much needed Twin Time.

I had orange juice and good conversation over the top of the laptop, and then returned down the block to set up my Reiki Station and do a brief meditation. When Jane returned from Bobbing (that’s what we call going to Bob’s because we think that’s pretty cool) our conversations were random, Reiki or Eye related, and comforting. We don’t see enough of each other. Hours passed with no interested walk-in’s and no appointment’s either, and the conversation turned to gardening. Actually, I was asking to pick her brain about it since she has nurtured a spectacular garden with a labyrinth at Eye of Horus.

She steered me towards a wonderful website called Spring Hill Nursury where they actually have pre-planned gardens. Just add water, they supply the plants.

For the front of the house, next to our steps we really need more variety and height, so I’m thinking of their beautiful fence garden:

Fence Garden I love the varied heights, but I would definitely have to get some kind of trellis for the flowers to grow up onto. It would be lovely entry the home though, don’t you think?

In our back yard is a huge silver maple, underneath which I want to have my own labyrinth one day. Sister Jane said she would volunteer to help with planting a garden there, and we like the looks of the Dear Resistant Shade Garden. Neither of us have planted much under established trees, so we will have to get some advice on that.

Actually I would love to have the tree wrapped in some kind of bench seating as well, which would be a wonderful vantage point on the rest of the yard.

That’s what I love about gardening, being out there in it to enjoy it for the rest of the year. Becoming a part of the garden itself, that’s really my goal here.

So while I did take some time on the Reiki Table myself while I was doing my regular gig, I was inspired by the warmer weather we’ve been experiencing just as much. I even drew some plans in my little journal of where I would put everything in the front yard. I did meet one person, Barbara, who had learned Reiki I & II but she hadn’t used it in a couple of years, so I gave her my card.

Then it was time to pack up and go, until next month when I’ll be back to do Reiki &/or talk gardens with my sister. It was a good day for me even without any clients.
