As I sit after my workout, in my smelly sport cloths, it suddenly dawned on me that I’m working on becoming my own hero. For fitness I’m looking at Jillian Michaels for inspiration, how-to, and courage. For financial fitness I’m looking to Suzie Orman for those same things. Both are super strong, self-made women, and that’s what I want to be too.
Suze has a philosophy, people first, then money, then things. And by people she means start with yourself and your own financial situation. I’ve worked hard on building some financial stability over the past two years. But now life has thrown me a curve ball and I’ll be looking for work in about four months or so. I’m going to look at getting some higher education as well.
To deal with the stress of the situation, I’m learning to cook healthy foods and work out regularly. I want to be in better shape physically to tackle the job hunt that’s in my future. Reiki is my other tool to destress, and I’m really glad to have it at hand. The twice monthly Reiki Shares are really fantastic, we had five people last time! Can you beleive it? And it all ended with a wonderful group hug.
I’m just really excited about the future, and learning to be my own hero. It’s late and time for bed, and some good dreams about my future.
As I grow as a Reiki practitioner I often find myself dreaming of the future. What events will I be going to? How can I be a better teacher? How do I plan for the growth of Reiki Artist LLC with a shoestring budget and a full-time job? Yeah, stuff like that. And now it’s starting to look more like I’m worrying…which needs to stop. “Just for today, do not worry” reminds me to live in the present, to live in today, and tomorrow will be there when I get there. No more worrying for me!
The big news for November is that I’ve had several successful Reiki Shares now at the Reiki Artist Studio, and the next one will be on Thursday December 3rd from 7-9 p.m.
I’ve also had some inquiries for Reiki Classes, so I’ve scheduled a Reiki I class for Saturday December 5th. Here are the details:
Reiki I Workshop – Shoden
Shoden is a Japanese word meaning ‘first teachings’. The purpose of the Reiki I class is to learn to sense Ki, cultivate Ki and use this knowledge to ground and heal the self and others. During this class the student will gain experience with four of the Elements of Reiki which are:
Gokai – Develop the spiritual and mental connection using gokai
Kokyû hô – Learn kokyû hô (breathing techniques) appropriate to this level to ground the student.
Tenohira –The physical practice of tenohira (palm-healing) on the self and others for the purpose of healing.
Reiju – Receive reiju (a blessing) from a teacher to develop the student’s energetic connection.
Today I followed my intuition to Eye of Horus where I took a workshop on Staving. You just might wonder what the heck staving is right now, and I’m getting to that. The teacher of this workshop is Kari Tauring, a musician, author, rune reader, and staff carrier. Through her studies of the Norse Myths and Sagas, her practice of working with the runes, and her inner journeys she has developed a wonderful tradition of working with the deep and ancient energies of the Nine Worlds.
Today I learned to align my spine with the world tree, or Yggdrasil in Norse Traditions. Tonight I will be working on my staff to bring it into my healing work. Here’s more about Staving from Kari’s website:
Völva is a reclaimed word from Old Norse which means literaly, staff carrier. The women who were Völva carried their healing, far-seeing, ceremonial, and magical practice from farmstead to farmstead. We have learned about them from the medieval texts, sagas and eddas, the folk stories and songs. Today, many women in the United States and abroad are reclaiming the title and practices of the Völva.
Here in Minnesota, Kari Tauring has developed Völva Stav. It’s a way to use the staff to create rythm for chant and song to journey and do energy work. In Ms. Tauring’s classes you will learn the history and vocabulary of the Northern pre-Christian mystical tradition. You will learn to use your body as the tool for your spiritual work — carrying your spine as the great stav and freeing your voice to call the ancestors. In group work, you will feel the fabric of the web of wyrd that holds all life together, you will hear it in the rhythm of other Völva as we shift and change and journey together.
Kari is an excellent teacher, and part of the workshop was doing a journey while we Staved. It was a wonderful experience for me, and it was the beginning of a journey from my heritage of Finnish and Norwegian to my love of the Celtic ways. So tonight I take the branch I staved with and I will be stripping the bark to what lies beneath, and then I will adorn it with symbols that mean a great deal to me in my personal journey. When I am done with the project I will definitely post it here! But here is a small sample of what I’m learning from Kari:
Well my first big Reiki Weekend went well indeed. We began the festivities with the Friday Night Reiki Share, which caused all kinds of confusion among the cats as to why Mom was cleaning every night all week, but I digress. The Reiki Share went well, and everyone got a turn on the table. Even the cats helped. Now, I’m very excited about the next Reiki Share, and I’ll be sending a reminder out to the Meet-up group. Oh yeah, and in an effort to be inclusive, rather than exclusive, I’m welcoming those who do other types of hands-on healing and to people who want to learn a little bit more about Reiki before jumping in and taking a class. Just sharing the love is what it’s all about. I’m a healer not an elitist after all.
And that brings us to the next two days of my big Reiki Weekend, with The Shadows Holistic and Psychic Arts Faire, where I was offering Faeries Oracle Readings and Mini Reiki Sessions. I had a really good time both days, and had the same number of clients each day, though the overall traffic was better on Sunday. It was all weather related, as on Saturday it was still Summer and on Sunday it suddenly became Autumn. And it is still blowing in even as I write this tonight. One of the interesting things is that I got a couple of readings which really has uplifted my outlook about my future. I’m doing what I need to be doing right now, and I’m just going to keep on with it. It really feels good to know that I’m pointed in the right direction and going and the proper pace as well.
The evening finished off the weekend with sending Reiki to my Sister-Outlaw who had a challenging morning, and then to my husband who had a challenging day. While I was at the Holistic Faire, my darling David was trying to do a yard sale on a windy and occasionally rainy day. So he was pretty tired and sore by the time I got home, as he had chased things across the yard, put shelving units back up that tumbled down, and scurried everything into the garage before the rain got too hard.
The good news is that while going through boxes, he found my long lost cloak which I thought was gone for good these past four years or so. I really could have used it during the 2006 Renaissance Festival season where I was selling my artwork, because the weather was about as blustery as today’s for much of the run. But I have it now, so I get to wear it and be all Witchy for Halloween (a.k.a. Samhain for us witches) this year. This and the cats were extra snuggly tonight and I consider it a wonderful ending to an excellent Reiki Weekend.
Oh yes, it’s been scheduled, and people have RSVP’d and everything. It’s my first Reiki Share as an Assistant Organizer of the Twin Cities Energy Healers and Energy Workers Meet-Up (TCEHW) will start at 7:00 p.m. this Friday night. I’m glad that people are planning to attend and I’m really excited to meet everyone. It should be a very fun time, and I’ll definitely need some of that good energy because this weekend, and next weekend, I’ve booked some events that I will be at:

Kinda crazy of me right? To be completely honest with you, I thought I had another weekend between to take care of everyday life things. Silly me!
In other news, I ordered some Postcards which will arrive in time for the 2nd event. Just a little October promotion that I’ve got tucked up my sleeve. I am soooo ready for Autumn to begin.
Last night we had our Tuesday Chat & Social for the TC Energy Healers & Energy Workers Meetup Group. It was a nice, relaxed little get together in the outdoor seating are of J&S Bean factory in St. Paul. There were about nine people there over all, and it was a pretty fun time. A night of free-flowing conversation with energy healers was definitely a better option than sitting in front of the TV all night! We sat out back where they have a walled in garden with many options for seating. A large, rough cut marble slab acted as our coffee table. I had my usual, a decaf mocha, and it was mighty tasty. There won’t be too many more outdoor excursions, because this is Minnesota after all, so I’m glad I was able to experience the evening outdoors with positive energy.
There were massage therapists, other Reiki practitioners, and other energy healers there. Our conversation started with the nitty gritty details of marketing and managing a small business, but moved on from there. One of my favorite conversations of the night was how to clear the energy in your neighborhood.
Buy White Sage in bulk – about a pound
Add in chunks of Dragon’s Blood or sprigs of dried lavendar
Light a fire in your backyard fire pit at midnight and allow it to burn down so it’s just hot coals
Start sprinkling on your Sage or other aromatic herbs or incense with the intention of sending positive energy throughout the neighborhood
So you are basically smudgeing the whole neighborhood! It’s best to do this at night after midnight so you won’t be bothering any of the neighbors with your smoke. This is definitely something I want to try, as I do have a fire-pit in the backyard. It sounds like fun doesn’t it?
After that we also talked a bit about aromatherapy, psychic experiences, communicating with our guardians and guides…you know, all the cool stuff. I left before it was finished because I wanted to get home at a reasonable hour. It was definitely time well spent and I hope to be able to attend again.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot! I mentioned that I wanted to host a Meet-up of my own, so my Friday Night Reiki Share is now an official event of the TCEHW Meet-up Group.

So I hope to see you at one or both of these events this month. As always, I have appoinments available every weekend here at the Reiki Artist Studio.
Since I was a young child people always told me how gifted I was as an artist. Like most kids, I grew up drawing and painting. Unlike the other kids, I would spend hours on each drawing until I got it right. Learning to draw was a wonderful way to pass the time. I could explore all the things that I loved most like horses, hobbits and dragons.
There were times of extreme frustration as well, especially when I was learning how to paint. Whatever gift I had at drawing, painting was another story entirely. But with years of practice I got pretty good at it.
The traditional way of learning to work with healing energy involves years of practice as well. Whether it’s Tai Chi or Qigong, both involve lots of techniques and years of practice to master. The same is true of many other healing modalities, requiring specific expensive crystals, classes, and detailed procedures.
Reiki starts you out with a gift. In Reiki I, you learn the basics of Reiki in a one day workshop. The simple hand positions, the quieting of your mind, calming yourself with relaxing breathing…and the Reiju blessing increasing your capacity to channel the energy of love: Reiki. That’s the gift, and you can then do Reiki on yourself! So simple.
Unlike learning to paint, learning Reiki II and the symbols was fun and easy. When I was ready to learn the Master level, I took the Reiki ART class first. This one had more techniques, but again they were simple to remember and very useful. In fact, nothing about learning Reiki was frustrating for me at all!
Today I had the most wonderful time browsing for things for the bath and body. I found an old gift card recently, and I had some time to stop at the store and use it at long last. Naturally I stocked up on my favorite fragrance, lavender. Even better, they were having a sale! So my gift card got me a nice little bag of goodies.
On the drive home, that beautiful fresh fragrance got me all inspired. I decided I would charge all my new products with Reiki, so when I use them I will have not only the aromatherapy, but reikitherapy as well!
So I’ve set up a reiki crystal grid on one open shelf of a bookcase, and I’ve gathered all of my lotions and scrubs and things on the shelf above it, so the crystals will power everything up over the next couple days. I’ll go ahead and recharge the crystals from time to time just to make sure the energy keeps flowing.
I recently discovered how much I myself need large quantities of Reiki. For some time, I’d been meaning to book an appointment with a fellow Reiki Master. Well last week I finally went in for a half hour session. All I can say is WOW! Now I know what my clients are talking about!! Being able to let go and let someone else give me reiki, not moving, not having to think about anything, but just being…well it was just what I needed to recharge my batteries. I have a sunnier outlook, and I feel very hopeful about everything I’m doing. Self-reiki is great and an essential part of my life, but sometimes even Reiki Masters need to let go and relax completely, and this session let me do that.
So, until my next Reiki session, I’m planning on increasing my daily use of Reiki by charging up all my personal products, blessing my food with Reiki, and carrying around some Reiki charged crystals. When I’m done writing this, I think I will hop up onto the Reiki table…that is if the cat will let me.
This weekend was to be our big Garage Sale weekend. Yesterday went well, with friends bringing their stuff as well. Today the forecast called for rain, so we decided to try again in a couple of weeks. We have a lot of extra stuff, having downsized our house for a larger lot and a quieter neighborhood in the suburbs.
This weekend I’ve been learning a lot about how wonderful it is to help out. Tonight I’ll be helping re-arrange my favorite Minneapolis Metaphysical Store, Eye of Horus. There will be pizza and everything! I’m trying to find more ways that I can be of service to my community, and if cleaning and organizing is one of them, then that’s what I will do. This morning, I was feeling a little dissappointed that there weren’t any Reiki Sessions scheduled for the day. So I took a long hot bath and meditated on the Five Precepts and I realized, I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing, right now.
There will be ample opportunity to give and receive Reiki as my little business grows, but this is a unique chance to help out my sister with her store, and be in a fun and positive environment at the same time! Life brings with it many different challenges and opportunities, and I intend to make the most of each and every one of them.
In this case, I get to be a good sister, have fun with friends, and help make Eye of Horus a bigger and better resource for the metaphysical community in Minnesota. What a great way to round out the weekend!
