About Reiki

What Reiki Is
Reiki (Pronounced “RAY-key”) is a Japanese word that means “universal life energy.” A form of holistic healing which originated in Japan, founder Mikao Usui described Reiki as “the Secret Art of Inviting Happiness, the miraculous medicine of all diseases”.

Reiki is a safe, gentle and amazingly effective hands-on relaxation technique that promotes healing. It is a way of magnifying the healing energy of the hands. Reiki works to compliment traditional medical care by using the same kind of non-physical “ki” energy martial artists use to nourish the body’s health and vitality.

Reiki for the Body

In today’s world of increasing speed of communication, we spend much of our time racing to keep up. True relaxation is a lost art, and the stress we live with as a result takes a toll on our health. The deep relaxation response experienced during a Reiki session strengthens the immune system and promotes healing in our physical bodies.

Reiki works with your body’s own Aura Blueprint of perfect health, helping your own energy align itself to heal and strengthen your body. During the session, energy is absorbed by the body where it needs it. Many people report that they feel refreshed and renewed following their Reiki session, as if they had 3-4 hours of sleep.

Receiving reiki as a part of your physical therapy in recovery from injury or surgery has been shown to speed up healing and reduce pain by reducing stress in the entire muscular system. That’s the power of holistic healing.

Reiki for the Mind

Reiki relieves mental and emotional stress, allowing the release of unneccessary worries and doubts. Problems are just blocked energies, and during a Reiki session those blockages are removed allowing a sense of peace and well-being to occur. Proper energy flow is restored allowing your mental and emotional selves to harmonize and balance.

Whether you have a high stress career or are feeling overwhelmed with the complexity of modern living, Reiki creates a calming oasis that you take with you when your session is ended. My clients report lasting benefits of both greater energy and focus in the days following their reiki session.

One additional benefit that my clients have reported is a clearing of their third eye, or psychic center. This has enabled them to safely tap into their intuition as well as creating a kind of psychic shield so their empathic abilities don’t interfere with their daily lives.

Reiki for the Spirit

As a Reiki Master, I work with Reiki every day, giving myself self-treatments and enhancing my well being with meditation techniques. This enables me to become a clear chanel for Reiki when I give treatments to others. Traditional Japanese exercises help me balance the three key energy centers known as the Hara in order to attain health and happiness. This spiritual energy offers a non-religious practice that furthers my spiritual path.

The other thing that I practice is incorporating the Five Spiritual Precepts into my life, and I meditate upon these daily as well.

Five Spiritual Precepts

Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to every living thing.

The five spiritual precepts have been handed down from Mikao Usui as a part of the traditional Japanese Usui Reiki System. They have been translated into English in a variety of ways, but the above version is my personal favorite.

Reiki is a system that is passed down from teacher to student. Part of the training process is a special blessing called Reiju in Japanese, and commonly called an attunement here in the west. This helps you gain a strong and permanent connection to the Reiki energy. That’s why you can’t learn Reiki from reading a book.

So now you know that this is a tradition of hands on healing passed down from teacher to student which originated in Japan in the 1920’s. Here’s what Dr. Oz has to say about Reiki:

Please note: Reiki does not replace the care provided by health care professionals, it complements it. You are strongly encouraged to continue seeing your health care providers and following their recommendations in conjunction with Reiki treatments.
